Editors’ Note

Day after day I find out more and more about our community. I see that there are so many motivated people doing volunteer work to establish the name of a society or organization and being recognized by the international community.

From receiving humanitarian awards, to the making of Hollywood movies, it gives us great pleasure to cover these events. We at OCPC try our best to be at every event we can so we can bring everyone together. If you have an event you would like us to cover, let us know in advance and we will be happy to send a reporter and photographer to cover your event!

With that said, we are so proud to receive four awards in relation to community services, education, entertainment and the young professional connection. We have decided to be here and to do more and more month after month. Remember, this magazine is made possible by our wonderful advertisers and sponsors, so we appreciate your support!

“OCPC is proving to be a leading institution in promoting understanding and good will among our diverse citizenry” ~Irvine Mayor Beth Krom

Sometimes in life everything seems to happen within the blink of an eye. The past year or so has been like that for me. It feels like one day I woke up and realized that I have a big responsibility ahead of me. It was sometime in mid July when I was told the news: “You’re going to be the new Editor-in-Chief.” Simple as that. “Um… Are you sure?” I asked my father, who had spent the year building OCPC into what it has become today. It was true.

I will be your new Editor-in-Chief beginning this month. I hope to one day be as great at it as my father has been, and obviously it will take some time, but I will try my best for now. As a young professional Iranian-American, I hope to attract even more of you into our community and get us all connected; OCPC will continue to be our bridge to doing so.

If you would like to get involved in our magazine as a contributor or reporter, contact me! I am always happy to get the help of energetic, outgoing people. My only rule is that you be passionate about your work! But don’t worry, you don’t have to be a writer to get involved! Email us and tell us about a local community event, write us a TalkBack response, tell us about a new organization or society, send us pictures or just give us some feedback…as long as it gives me a chance to get to know all of you!

Continual support from our advertisers and sponsors is also very much appreciated. Advertising in OCPC will not only get you exceptional exposure to the community but it will help keep us alive as well. A big thank you goes to our current advertisers, subscribers and readers of OCPC. You have brought us where we are today and I truly thank all of you!

Last month I was honored to have been one of 19 youths in the community who received a special volunteer award for accomplishments and dedication to the community from NIPOC (Network of Iranian-American Professionals of Orange County) at the youth appreciation awards in July. I am a huge advocate of getting kids involved in the community from a young age. Volunteering is the best way to become active; whether it’s tutoring kids, helping organize local events, being involved in clubs and organizations or starting one of your own! In the end, you will see that the more people you know, the more connected you are. In turn this will help you out in your career, no matter what field you may be in.

By the way don’t forget that the 10th Annual Mehregan Festival is coming up in October! This is a wonderful time to volunteer and help out the many, many hard working individuals at NIPOC who put together this amazing event every year.
